DeWanda

DeWanda is a bad ass boss who’s talents transcend any customary line of experience you may find on a traditional resume. Theatre, Art, Music and Dance are all disciplines that permeate the soul of this goddess who truly enjoys expressing herself through her life-experiences. She is a daily practitioner of Nichiren Buddhism and embodies the three essential aspects of faith, practice and chanting daimoku. This philosophy is a way of life for DeWanda as she seeks to continuously grow spiritually and work towards her personal awakening. DeWanda truly believes that everybody has an innate Buddha nature, and if tapped into, is capable of attaining enlightenment in their lifetimes. This is reflected in the Nichiren Buddhist chant, “Nam Myoho Renge Kyo,’ which translates to “devotion to the mystic law of the universe,” the underlying force governing all things in the universe. As a mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother she is the proud matriarch of a blended multiracial, multi-cultural and harmonious family. She takes seriously the responsibility to build a legacy for her daughters and son to carry on. Embodying love, peace, harmony and family are concepts passed on to her by the powerful Black women and their ancestors who came before them. She has come full circle in her personal life and has begun sharing her story to help other women by sharing on stage and social media through short story bursts called “WasbandLife”. Having experienced two painful divorces, she uses her experience as a catalyst to help other women realize that all of our stories, good or bad, are a beautiful recipe full of delicious richness that- when embraced with love- can create a happy, healthy and whole life. In her professional life, DeWanda is an organizational development and training executive. She holds a Masters in Psychology with certifications in Diversity Equity and Inclusion, Change Management, as well as accreditations in Emotional Intelligence and Organizational Human Behavior. You can find DeWanda and enjoy her beautiful “WasbandLife” perspectives on Instagram @wasbandLIFE.
